The addition of a Director of Regulations, a Director of Operations and a Director of Safety underscores the company’s dedication to expanding its capabilities in the Advanced Air Mobility sector with a focus on the implementation of one of the world’s first operations of its kind. VARON welcomes Mr. Mauricio Gomez, Mr. Julio Parra and Mr. Felipe Gomez to the team and firmly believes their experience will contribute to the realization of the company’s mission. Their collective knowledge will play a vital role in achieving the strategic objectives of the company and position it as a frontrunner in this novel aeronautics and mobility sector.

With a shared passion for innovation and a dedication to excellence, VARON’s three new Directors will collaborate with the existing team and lead specific subject matters to propel VARON to the implementation of its world’s first operations.
Mr. Mauricio Gomez has been appointed as Director of Regulations. An aeronautical administrator with 30 years of experience in air operations and aeronautical logistics, he’s and unmanned aerial systems instructor pilot and former advisor to the Colombian civil aviation authority on their drones program, their regulation and integration into Colombian airspace. He will lead the company’s strategies for obtaining and maintaining operation permits from aviation authorities and the collaborative work with aviation authorities in relation to the creation of Advanced Air Mobility regulations and operational legal frameworks.
Mr. Julio Parra has taken the role of Director of Operations. He’s an aeronautical engineer with very strong operational experience with drones and unmanned aerial systems (UAS), a specialist in data capture with drones using leading edge technologies and AI and a former Colombian civil aviation authority team member for drones’ integration and regulations development. He will establish policies, doctrine, rules and conditions for the company’s operations, from concept and operations design to actual field deployment of air operations, ground operations, maintenance operations and vertiport operations.
Mr. Felipe Gomez is VARON’s new Director of Safey. He’s an airline transport pilot, type rating instructor (Airbus 320), SMS/ARMS instructor, aviation consultant in safety, quality, training and flight operations, internal auditor of management systems and former VIVA Airline quality safety and security manager, with 10 years of experience in flight safety. He’s assumed the leadership of the design, implementation and management of a comprehensive safety integrated system for VARON’s operations, safety and quality assurance, systemic hazard identification, systemic risk assessment and systemic mitigation strategies, encompassing all aspects of company operations, involving VARON’s eVTOL aircraft, use of airspaces, ground operations, operative teams, sub-teams, staff and pilots, from planning through the execution of all air operation phases, in addition to personnel selection and their certifications.
